Making decisions can be challenging! How often do we desire wisdom for the choices we need to make, the direction we need to go, handling of difficult situations?
Wisdom is available. The key is to get it from the right source.
James, insightful and incisive as always, warns us that there are two sources of wisdom, and they lead to very different outcomes. (James 3:13-18)
Some wisdom is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. Thus it comes from the devil himself. This is what it looks like:
Bitter. Jealous. Selfishly ambitious.
The result: Disorder and vile practices.
The wisdom from above comes from God Himself through His Holy Spirit. This is what it looks like:
Pure. Peaceable. Gentle. Open to reason. Full of mercy and good fruits. Impartial. Sincere.
The result: A harvest of righteousness sown in peace.
So how to make sure you discover the wisdom from above:
“If any of you lacks wisdom, ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given to him.” (James 1:5)
What a wonderful gift: Wisdom from above.
Where have you been getting your wisdom?

As this new month has approached, it felt like God was encouraging a closeness to Himself so as to “be ready” to what this time and my path brings. Without the wisdom of His Holy Spirit, my feet are not firmly planted. Thank you for this encouragement in it’s simplicity this morning.
Fortunately for those of us who are pretty simple, God gives His wisdom simply.
I have often referred to those verses when needing to resolve a conflict. It’s a great way to bring my mind into alignment with what God is wanting in that relationship and the part i have in the resolution.
I’ve found it’s also a great passage to pray for others who are in meetings and deciding on challenging or contentious issues.
I find wisdom comes to me as I journal with God about the difficulty i’m facing or the hurt I’m feeling. It brings perspective,
After a rant at God, like the psalmist, I start to remember and journal truths about God and what he wants, that are pertinent to the situation.
Every time I take the time to go to God this way, he changes me and shows me my part in the way forward. Sometimes that part is not as big as I would have liked…that must be his wisdom because my self-centredness would want it to be more about me than about God.
Wisdom from above can be very confronting but then it’s also very freeing.
