My son, the big, strong, tough guy. Fisherman. Landscaper. Survivor.
The prodigal who broke my heart so many times, leading me to the feet of Jesus.
My teacher—unknowingly—for learning the reality of
…unconditional love,
…God’s fondness for waiting,
…the life breath that is prayer,
…the necessity of persevering,
…believing in a better future.
Delivering hope and joy in the twisting journey,
…slowly moving upward and homeward.
I’m smiling at today’s mileposts.
This morning he posted on Facebook:
I hate the fact that I lost my job, but I Love the fact i just got to test my little girl on her social studies and then took her to school
Tonight he called to confirm the directions for the cupcakes he and Madison were making. Then he called again: Is it okay if I let her lick the bowl?
Funny boy—how many times did he lick the bowl?
The cupcakes turned out perfect, though the icing is a little sloppy.
Aren’t we all–a little sloppy?!

How precious. I love this.
Me too. Thanks, Heather.
This brought tears to my eyes. I so look forward to the day my prodigal calls me to answer questions like this!
He is is God’s hands and God will never let him go.
Keep believing, Diane.
Thank you, Judy. This helps me see past the adversity in my own life today to Someone greater.
His grace is more than enough, Lori.
“my little girl” – how precious. I’m praying!
Yes, I was amazed.
I love how tender his heart is! And yes, we are all a little sloppy!
We know, don’t we, Dena.
Love your post! I needed to hear your words today.. “the necessity of persevering…believing in a better future…Delivering hope and joy in the twisting journey,…slowly moving upward and homeward.” Blessings on you Judy!
Just what we talked about on Midday Connection today…unknowingly our rebels invite us to a larger journey, a journey chosen for us…and we need much more faith, support and grace than we ever dreamed…for the sloppiness of both parent and child.
I so enjoy reading answers to my many prayers for you and Josh. Thanks for sharing..
A sweet, bite-size post. Thank you!
Thanks for all your sweet words. Josh even liked it.
Wonderful story about a great guy. Wonderful writing. Wonderful God.
Thanks, Mike. You are encouraging.
And you should know: Madison made 100 on her social studies test! Good job, dad!
Your words paint such a vivid picture of your heart, Judy.
Chuck Swindoll has said, “We are all faced with a series of great opportunities brilliantly disguised as impossible situations.” My seemingly impossible situation may not be a prodigal child, it may be some other relationship difficulty, health crisis, etc., which drives me to my knees – resting, reflecting, growing, communing, getting His perspective.
Thank you for sharing.
Just talked with the new staff about this today–God always has a plan, it is different from your plan and you can’t do it. Only He can.
Thanks for another peek into an adult child’s life, Judy. Of course, this is not new for you. As a mother of adult sons, I so appreciate the tenderness and care, ala Mother’s Love, exuded by your reports. Praying for his next job and thanking God for Josh’s fatherly tenderness and care toward sweet Madison.
Thanks, Sandra. I always appreciate your encouragement.
